Day 2 at my internship at the Wiz 97.9

Today was the second day of my internship, and it went very well. Guess what????? I was dressed for the radio station weather. Today Ms. Alicia let me work the control board all by myself. And guys I forget to mention in my last post that I manage the Russ Parr show in the morning. Since the Wiz is syndicated; they pick up the Russ Parr morning show. Even though I don’t get to see Russ Parr in person at the station, I somewhat feel like I know him.  Today I learn that the Russ Parr show play from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m., Monday through Friday, and it’s a live show.

Since the show is syndicated, I control it on the control board. I really don’t have to do much but fade the show in and out on breaks. The Russ Parr show takes three breaks every hour. My job is to play the commercial when the morning show goes on break. I enjoy listening and laughing with Russ Parr and his morning staff. My favorite part of the show is the horoscopes.

I also got the chance to edit and cut the news breaks, all by myself. I love the fact Ms. Alicia let us work hands on with the equipment. With the news breaks, all I do is cut the dead air and add effects. I have to complete the news breaks done as soon as I get there because the first one is to air at 6:50, and I get there at 6:30 so I have to work quickly.

My second day was great and I was able to work alone with a little supervision from Ms. Alicia G. I look forward to my next day, which is Friday.

Day 1 at my Internship at the Wiz 97.9

Today was the first day at my internship at the Wiz 97.9. I was kind of nerves as I walked into the station, I didn’t know what to expect. I had to arrive at the station at 6:30 a.m. and I stayed there until 10:30. As I walked in and greeted Ms. Alicia G, she was wearing a coat and a hat and I was wondering to myself why she is wearing all that inside the building. As I continue to walk in the station, I then relieve why she was covered in so much appeal. It then hit me; it was sooooo cold in the back of the radio station. She warned me that it will be cold everyday so come dressed for the weather inside the station, she joked.

I finally got passed the coldness and was ready to learn the ins and outs of the radio station. I was surprise to find out that the radio station was syndicated, which mean I was not going to see any of the on air personality. I was disappointed because I want to be an on air personality, and I wanted to watch them work in their environment.

Ms. Alicia showed me how to work the boards that control the satellite, and the computer system (in which I forgot the name). To my surprise it was very easy to do the control board.  When then went in the other room and I learn how to edit and cut news breaks. This part was somewhat challenging but I know I would eventually get it.

The first day of my internship went well, and I look forward to learning more and conquering this thing called radio. Continue to follow me and this journey.
